Energy Online ‘Year of Free Energy’ Offer Eligibility Energy Online is giving away one of 10 packages of 12 months’ free energy usage (up to a total value of $2,500 and applied by way of an account credit) to 10 lucky residential customers (“Promotion”). The total prize value of $2500 (including GST) has been calculated as the average annual cost of electricity for New Zealand residential households based on data from the average electricity cost per NZ residential household for the 12mths to March 2019, as outlined in the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment ‘Sales Based Electricity Cost’ Report for Residential available here.

1. The Promotion is open between 27 January 2020 and 15 March 2020 (“Promotion Period”) to new and existing residential Energy Online customers. To be eligible for the Promotion you must be an active existing Energy Online residential customer account holder on 15 March 2019 or new residential Energy Online customer who signs up before 15 March 2019 (“Eligible Participant”).


2. If you do not have a “smart electricity meter”, or if you are a metered gas customer, to be eligible for the Prize, you must provide us with unrestricted access to your meter during the Prize Term.


3. This Promotion grants each Eligible Participant one entry into the prize draw (“Prize Draw”) for a chance to win one of 10 Prizes in accordance with these terms and conditions.


4. The Promotion is for residential customers only and for the primary residence of the account holder. Commercial customers or residential customers with a property deemed to be commercial in nature are not eligible.


5. Customers with multiple properties/residences on a single account are eligible to enter, however the prize can only be applied to a single property/residence.


6. A valid email address and contact phone number must be provided, failure to do so may result in being excluded from receiving the Prize.


7. Energy Online retains the right to exclude customers deemed to be in debt with Energy Online or in account arrears.


8. New customers are subject to Energy Online’s standard joining terms and conditions.

9. The Prize winners will be drawn on 18 March 2020 (“Draw Date”) by randomly selecting 10 Eligible Participants to receive 1 of 10 Prizes and will be notified by email or telephone within 3 business days after the Draw Date (“Prize Winners”).


10. If the Prize Winners cannot be contacted within the specified timeframe or are otherwise not eligible to win the Prize, that Prize will be redrawn until the winners for that Prize are drawn and notified and the Prize has been accepted.


11. By accepting the Prize, the Prize Winner’s name, image and details may be used by Energy Online for promotional purposes, including online and on social media, and the winner agrees to participate in any publicity arrangements that Energy Online may reasonably require. All personal information will be held in accordance with Energy Online’s Privacy Policy.

12. The prize is 1 of 10 packages of 12 months (from 1 March 2020 to 28 February 2021 inclusive (“Prize Period”)) free Energy Usage on the winner’s Energy Online account, up to a total maximum value of $2500 (including GST) over the Prize Period (“Prize”). For the purposes of this Promotion, “Energy Usage Charges” means all actual usage in respect of of electricity, natural gas and/or LPG bottled gas (as the case may be), including the applicable variable and daily fixed charges (for electricity and natural gas) and bottle purchase and rental charges (for LPG) at the Prize Winner’s primary residence. Energy Usage does not include any additional “non-usage” account charges (for example, including, without limitation, any metering upgrades, metering configurations or reconnection/disconnection fees).


13. For each month during the Prize Period, the Prize will be applied as a full bill credit (including prompt payment discount) in respect of all applicable Energy Usage Charges on the Prize Winner’s applicable Energy Online account up to a total maximum value of $2,500 over the Prize Period. If the during the Prize Period, the Prize Winners total Energy Usage charges exceed $2,500, the Prize Winner will then be charged the applicable rates under the relevant Energy Online plan for their account from that point.


14. The Prize will apply only in relation to actual meter readings only and will not be awarded in relation to estimates. In the case of a bill for an estimated meter read the relevant portion of the Prize will not be applied until an actual meter read is taken and relevant bill is issued. Subject to clause 13, the Prize winner will not be required to pay such estimated bill, and any Energy Usage charged incurred under such estimated bill will be addressed in the bill pertaining to the actual reading. Any applicable prompt payment discount in relation to an estimated bill will still apply.


15. The Prize is applied on a monthly basis is respect of Energy Usage charges incurred. In order to receive the full benefit of the Prize, the Prize Winner’s applicable Energy Online account must be open, valid and operating in compliance with all applicable Energy Online terms and conditions (including the Energy Online Standard terms and conditions) during the Prize Period.


16. The Prize is not transferable, refundable or redeemable for cash.


17. Closure, cancellation or otherwise termination of the Prize Winner’s applicable Energy Online account before the expiration of, or during the Prize Period will result in the forfeiture of.


18. Any unused portion of the Prize at the end of the Prize Period shall be forfeited and is not transferable, refundable nor redeemable for cash.


19. Energy Online may, in its sole discretion, determine that it will not award the Prize to the Prize Winner for reasons including where the Prize Winner’s account is in breach of the EOL Standard Terms and Conditions, awarding the Prize may (in Energy Online’s sole discretion) adversely impact the reputation of Energy Online, or where the Prize Winner is no longer eligible.

20. The promoter of the Prize is Genesis Energy Limited trading as Energy Online.


21. This Prize is not available in conjunction with any other offer from Energy Online.


22. This Promotion is only open to current Energy Online residential customers residing in New Zealand.


23. Employees, contractors or agents of Energy Online or Genesis Energy, are not eligible for the Promotion.


24. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.


25. Entry into this Offer implies full acceptance of all the terms and conditions of the Offer. If the Prize winner does not accept these terms and conditions, the Prize will be forfeited.


26. All new customer applications are subject to a credit check.


27. Energy Online Standard Terms and your applicable plan terms apply at all times.


28. Energy Online reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions in any way up to the expiry of the Prize Period.


29. Genesis reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, withdraw, modify or suspend the Promotion or invalidate any customers from the Promotion at any time without prior notice.


30. By participating in the Promotion and /or accepting a Prize you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms and any other applicable terms and conditions.


31. Energy Online’s Standard Terms and Conditions will also apply and take precedence if there is any inconsistency between them and the terms and conditions for this Offer.
